Our mission is to help families victimized by immigration enforcement

ICE apprehends individuals from across the mid-Atlantic region and detains them at Delaney Hall in Newark. Families often drive for hours for the opportunity of a one-hour visit. Food4NJ.org steps in to provide assistance by packing bags of groceries and distributing grocery store gift cards to families as they leave the detention center after their visit. Additionally, other groups are present to offer refreshments, advice, and support for needy families. Our goal is to establish a network of 400 partners who can donate groceries and contribute $10 a month to provide hope and assistance to these families.

News & Observations

Here is what we put in the grocery bags on a typcial week:

To support needy families through Delaney Hall assistance, consider donating groceries such as rice, pasta, beans, and rolled oats. Essential items like pasta sauce, fresh tomatoes, evaporated milk, and ground cinnamon can make a significant difference. Don't forget to include other seasonings and spices, such as garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, basil, and adobo. Additionally, a jar of peanut butter or hazelnut spread, along with a jar of jelly, can be wonderful treats. Canned options like tuna or chunk chicken, chicken broth, and packages of bullion cubes are also helpful. Fresh produce, including onions, garlic cloves, fresh peppers, fresh carrots, and fresh limes or lemons, should be part of your donation. Adding Mandarin oranges or other citrus fruits, along with other fresh produce like cucumbers, zucchini, and potatoes, will provide variety. Lastly, consider including a snack item like cookies, chips, or crackers, and some English muffins, rolls, or a loaf of bread to complete the contribution.
